Lent 2023

Dear brothers:

Within our Lenten path, having as goal the joy of our hope, I want to share with you this privileged time of our Church, we cannot lose any thread of this profound time of Lent. Every Lent is a call to understand that it is never too late to begin the road and all error is light to start again. It is an occasion lived as revision from a deep prayer, consistent fasting and almsgiving that stems from the commandment of love, to question ourselves seriously about our adherence to Christ, to his Gospel and to his Ecclesial Body, whose ecclesial body is demonstrated in small parcels of experience and responsibility such as the Parish, the Archpriesthood, pastoral unity, the Diocese and so, the universal church. And impulse not to “evade” what confronts us with what would force us to change. Sometimes you do not want to recognize our mistakes and our sin. Perhaps we not act of misconduct. We simply avoid what we would urge to live with more truth. We do not listen to the calls that are born from our conscience, inviting us to be better. We pass by everything that questions our life. He who does not live his life from his deepest truth, can know success, welfare, arrogance, populace pride, etc.. , but he will never know what inner happiness is and he will have destroyed the Gospel in himself and in those around him. May this Lent help us understand that we need greater loyalty before ourselves and before God. A more sincere and transparent attitude that allows us to see ourselves as we are and open ourselves more humbly to the truth of Jesus Christ. Don't keep fooling us any longer. Open the eyes. It will only be the personal and mysterious encounter of each one with God that unleashes within us the desire to conversion, not as a penance nor as a tortuous path, but as an exciting adventure to be free men and women. The Lent It is an urgent call in this society where humanity has allowed itself to be trapped by the devil and is pruning the roots of faith in our Europe., of our Spain and the world, with wars and laws that annihilate the culture of life and the dignity of man and woman that God created for Life and not for Death. Let's not be afraid of the present moment that overwhelms us. Those who know cling to god they will be fruitful forever (Joel 3,19).

May the Virgin Mary, Mother, help us live our Lenten journey in depth.
